President Engages with Rice Mill Owners to Ensure Stable and Affordable Rice Supply

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held discussions today (02) with small and medium-scale rice mill owners at the Presidential Secretariat, focusing on strategies to ensure a continuous and affordable supply of rice in the coming months.

During the meeting, the President highlighted the urgent need to implement measures to stabilize rice availability and pricing for consumers. He engaged with the mill owners to identify practical solutions that could be implemented immediately to address these concerns.

The discussion also explored ways to enhance storage facilities nationwide to prevent shortages and maintain a consistent rice supply, according to the Presidential Media Division (PMD).

Concerns were raised regarding the declining availability of Nadu rice for household consumption, attributed to its increased use in value-added products. In response, the President emphasized the importance of addressing this trend to ensure sufficient Nadu rice for regular consumers.

Additionally, President Dissanayake proposed introducing a QR code system to optimize the distribution of fertilizer subsidies and encourage domestic agricultural production, the PMD noted.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, Lak Sathosa Chairman Dr. Samitha Perera, other officials, and representatives from the rice milling industry.
