The Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team secured a convincing 131-run victory over Afghanistan in their second match of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup, solidifying their place in the tournament’s semi-finals.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 244 runs for the loss of seven wickets. The innings was anchored by a remarkable century from Sharujan Shanmuganathan, who scored 102 runs off 132 balls.
In reply, Afghanistan’s batting lineup faltered, managing only 112 runs in 28.2 overs. Despite the heavy defeat, Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar stood out for Afghanistan, taking three wickets for 35 runs in his 10 overs.
This loss follows Afghanistan's opening match defeat to Bangladesh by 45 runs, marking their second consecutive setback in the tournament.
Looking ahead, Afghanistan will face Nepal in their next group stage match on Tuesday as they aim to bounce back.
For Sri Lanka, the victory places them at the top of Group ‘B’ with one game remaining. They are set to face Bangladesh, who have also secured a semi-final berth, in a much-anticipated clash on Tuesday (03).
